The Faculty of Environmental Engineering (W7) offers a graduate program in environmental engineering and environmental systems. Annual student enrolment is approximately 500 and the total number of undergraduates amounts to 2,000. The faculty has an academic staff of 103 with nine full professors, ten associate professors and 84 assistant professors.
Research activity of the Polymer Engineering and Recycling Laboratory (PERLA – part of MRC) concern Material Science (Polymer Blends and Nanocomposites) and Plastic Waste Management. Research activity covers following area:
- Plastic waste recycling, upgrading of secondary plastics, reactive compatibilisation
- End of life vehicles management
- Recycling of electronics, replacement of hazardous components in advanced electronics
- Building materials recycling
Current research in the materials branch covers polymer blends and composites (toughened and reinforced materials, in situ composites, nanocomposites, wood and natural fiber composites, hybrid composites, magnetic composites, electrically conductive plastics, medical grade plastics, starch based materials), reactive processing of polymers, biodegradable plastics based on natural fillers.
